Do we always value things and people only after we lose them ?

We very often take things for granted that deserve our gratitude the most.“People say you don’t know what you’ve got until it's gone. Truth is, you knew what you had, you just never thought you’d lose it”. We generally fail to realize the true value of many things until they are missing from our lives; for e.g, the Internet and the cell phone. We do not realize how vital the cell phone our life until we have to go days without it. We forget to enjoy the little things in life till we realize they were the big things. We do this with both people and possessions. We take things for granted on a daily basis, always with the assumption that whenever we need something, it will be there.

Therefore..

1)“Appreciate what you have before it becomes what you had.”

This is a common thing once a relationship reaches its conclusion. When one becomes complacent with his/her partner, it is easy to fall into this trap. Happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting what we don’t have, rather it’s recognizing and appreciating what we do have. If someone once made me happy, there is a great chance they still will. Think about it -- maybe we are bored with our familiar routine, but that doesn’t mean we should get rid of it. Don’t lose something that we have for something that we want.

2)“Someone else is happier with less than what you have.”

What I have now was once everything I strove to attain. Just because something becomes repetitive does not mean it needs to be replaced. Think of how lucky I’m to have someone I can be completely comfortable around, that is a true gift and one that should be cherished at all times.

Appreciate all the things one has in life because one never knows when that time will end. Clear the clutter inside our mind and realize what I have right now. Don’t wait until one has lost it to finally see how much I took it for granted. Don’t wait until you realize that without it, your foundation to make it through each day begins to crumble.

3)“Don’t take things for granted because they might not be there tomorrow.”

Too many times people don’t realize what they have because they are out there looking for something better. The problem is that when they do realize it, they will come crawling back. Everyone falls into the trap that the grass is always greener on the other side. People make mistakes, it's part of human nature. If one really love the person it may be in both people’s best interest to give him or her another chance. Let’s hope for the best….
